Miraculous creatures they are, those damselflies and dragonflies. From the slender damselflies such as the  blue-tailed damselfly or common bluetail (Ischnura elegans),  the white-legged damselfly (Platycnemis pennipes) and the beautiful banded demoiselle (Calopteryx splendens) to the sturdy and heavier dragonflies such as the vagrant darter (Sympetrum vulgatum) and the broad-bodied chaser (Libellula depressa).

But a dragonfly is not just any dragonfly. Read more about the differences between dragonflies and damselflies in this blog.

In The Netherlands there are 71 species, 45 dragonflies and 26 damselflies. I’ve photographed respectively 27 and 16 species of them. Below you will find an overview with all the photos of Dutch dragonflies and damselflies on my website. Unfortunately I can’t arrange them yet here alphabetically by their English name.

To easily find a damselfly of dragonfly species you can go to the overview page, where all species are listed alphabetically by name. With a hyperlink you can go to a page with photos of the relevant species.
